Promoting Good Relations
The aim of the Promote Good Relations project is to address the barriers which prevent certain Deaf people from integrating successfully into their own community and accessing the services they need in order to live with maximum choice and independence.
This project involves:
- Establishing a social policy consultation network Deaf, disability and mainstream organisations to collect information about the Disability Discrimination Act 1995;
- Interviewing twenty Deaf people, each from a different background, regarding barriers and access to services;
- Encouraging Deaf people to participate in the Deaf community by attending Deaf-led events, promoting understanding of different cultures, faiths and disabilities; and
- Encouraging Deaf people to participate in mainstream forums that influence policies and legislation.
RAD also prepares official responses to consultation papers which affect Deaf people from gaining access to services.
For RAD use only, the Social Policy Evaluation Form for casework can be found on the Staff Intranet on the main RAD website under AA-Team Policies and Procedures.
