Services
RAD Legal Services offers many services across England and Wales, as outlined below.
RAD is currently working with the Legal Services Commission to improve access to their Community Legal Advice Helpline for D/deaf and hard of hearing people. This pioneering project is the first of its kind in the UK using existing technologies, and will improve access to legal services for Deaf BSL users in England and Wales. Deaf BSL users can obtain legal advice in welfare benefits, employment, housing and debt via webcam online.
RAD Legal Services offers legal advice and representation to D/deaf and hard of hearing clients from a BME background. If you live within one of the 33 London Boroughs, you can see one of our caseworkers to discuss your issues at one of our nine outreach sessions across London.
The aim of the Promoting Good Relations project is to address the barriers which prevent Deaf people from integrating successfully into their own community and accessing the services they need in order to live with maximum choice and independence.
If you require specialised legal advice in the area of employment law (and some goods and services, housing and education cases), you may be able to instruct Rob Wilks, a Deaf Solicitor, to act on your behalf. If you live in England and Wales, Rob can advise you on a pro bono basis.
Other RAD services
The BME Advocacy Service can provide information, support and advice to the Deaf Ethnic Community from any area in London.
The Essex Advocacy Service supports Deaf and Hard of Hearing people to enable them to achieve independence and greater control over their lives. This service is currently only available in Essex, but spot purchase agreements can be made elsewhere.
